About YAB

HISTORYdots

Youth About Business (YAB) was founded in 1992. The program was founded as a project of Creating an Environment of Success (CES), a Tennessee based 501(c)3 not-for-profit corporation. Beginning with only seven student participants, YAB is now the primary program with students participating from Tennessee, Texas, New York, Illinois, and a strategic plan to establish this innovative, entrepreneurial training program nationwide.

MISSION AND GOALS dots

Our mission is to provide an entrepreneurial training program to youth that will enrich the lives of program participants. Our program exposes youth to successful entrepreneurs as well as provides hands on training through the YAB Training Centers. Our goal is to give our youth participants a unique learning opportunity that will enhance their educational endeavors, as well as equip them with a better understanding of how to become effective leaders.

ENTREPRENEURIAL TRAININGdots

Our program prepares students with all the mechanics of how to successfully run a business. We have an established curriculum, and area professionals help us to execute the training portions of our program. The long-term goal of YAB is to establish training work sites nationwide that will offer practical skill development and opportunities to students. Our alumni have enrolled in schools such as: University of Tennessee at Knoxville, Florida A&M, Fisk, Johns Hopkins, Harvard, St. John's, Columbia, Howard, Kentucky State, Morehouse, Emory, Spelman, Babson, Hampton, Sewanee and many other colleges and universities.

The Gallup Poll Survey on Entrepreneurship quotes that over 70% of youth say they would like to become business owners; however over 85% say they are not being taught how to successfully run a business. Our objective is to provide a youth Entrepreneurial training program that successfully fills that gap. We are committed to “preparing tomorrow’s leaders today.”
