Let us answer all of your questions.
The total cost for the YAB Online Academy is $2,799. This cost includes a $299 fee for our Business Economy of America series and a $2,500 fee for the Summer Business Camp (for those that attend this portion of the training). The overwhelming majority of our students receive a corporate-sponsored, income-based scholarship of $2,000 for the Summer Business Camp. We work with most parents on covering the balance for their student’s participation. Once your student is selected, we will determine the level of scholarship funding they will receive. If a student qualifies for Championship Camp, there is no additional cost in our online virtual model.
To apply for scholarship consideration, parents must submit proof of household income to [email protected]. Proof of household income can include the cover page of the 2018 or 2019 Tax Return (e.g. 1040EZ). YAB will use Adjusted Gross Income as our proxy for household income. Please remove sensitive information, like social security numbers, from the documents before you email them.
The Business Economy of America program for 2020 will take place from June 29th – July 1st. First-year Youth About Business students will attend virtual programming from 10AM ET to 2PM ET. Returning students (students from previous summers) will attend from 10AM to 4PM. During programming, students will hear from senior executives regarding professional development, global economic trends, and business acumen. For more information about our Business Economy of America program visit the Youth About Business Online Academy page.
Students will all take a post-diagnostic test to see if they qualify for the Summer Business Camp. If they qualify, students will have the option to participate in one of the Summer Business Camp weeks (July 6 – 10th or July 13th – 17th). During the Summer Business Camp week, students will compete in teams advised by industry executives on how to negotiate a Merger & Acquisition transaction. At the end of the week, each team will present its negotiated transaction before a panel of senior executive judges. A total of nine teams from the two weeks of Summer Business Camp will be invited to the Youth About Business Championship Champ. The top team in the nation will win shares of stock.
All 2020 program dates are posted in the Summer Programs section of the website.
All students are invited to participate in the Leadership Development and Career Preparation program. These programs are held on the first and third Thursdays of the month. You can find more information about this program on our website.
There is also an Entrepreneurial Training Program for students ages 10 – 14. This entrepreneurship training takes place on the third and fourth Saturdays from 1PM to 4PM EST. This program costs $600 for the year. You can find more information about this program on our website.
Youth About Business was founded in Nashville, TN and that is where the Entrepreneurial Training Program portion was started. We will now provide this program nationwide because of our virtual model
The Entrepreneurial Training program serves students ages 10 – 14. The Summer Business Camp serves high school students who have completed their freshman year of high school. Students are eligible to participate in Youth About Business programming as late as the summer following their high school graduation.
There is no GPA requirement for any of our programs.
Students must apply online by submitting one teacher recommendation and writing a one-page essay. There is a $25 application fee for all students.
Students will be contacted by Youth About Business staff. There will be three parent orientation meetings available for parents to receive details regarding programming. Students are required to submit a Code of Conduct form ensuring they will follow all program guidelines and a Parent’s Permission Form.
Students are able to participate in the year-round Youth About Business Leadership Development program without being a part of the Summer Business Camp. For students who do not attend the Summer Business Camp, the cost of the Leadership Development program is $600 annually.
Our students must exhibit a desire to want to succeed, have one teacher recommend them to the program, and write a one-page essay on why they would like to be a part of a leadership development program. Although we ask for student GPA, SAT and ACT scores (if they have them), students are not admitted based on these criteria. This is solely for data collection and tracking. Many students that have not traditionally done well in classroom-based learning models do well in our experiential model.
All students attending the Business Economy of America 2020 program will be notified by the third week of June. The Entrepreneurial Training program begins on the third Saturday of August each year. All acceptance notifications will be sent during the first week of August.
